Tips

Prior to any injectable treatment, keep these tips in mind:

To reduce the potential for bruising, avoid the following for at least 2 weeks prior to treatment:

• Vitamin E, anti-inflammatory medications such as ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin), naproxen (Aleve), St. John’s Wort, ginko biloba, and any supplement or medication that thins the blood.

Plan your treatment carefully:

• Injectables often require repeat treatments. Each time you are treated, your initial outcomes may vary. For this reason, you don’t want to plan any injectable treatment within a few days of a major social occasion.

Be prepared after treatment:

• Make certain you have soft, flexible, cool compresses available for the first 24 hours after treatment.
• It is important that you not exert yourself with exercise or any activity that can increase your blood pressure in the first 24 hours after treatment. This can increase the potential for swelling and bruising.
• Have a good, rub-proof, sweat-proof, non-irritating concealer or camouflage make-up available to touch up any discoloration after treatment.
• Needle sticks may bleed a bit after treatment. You may apply an antibiotic ointment to the treated region.

If you are prone to cold sores or carry the herpes virus:

• Ask your doctor for an antiviral prescription to take prior to your injectable treatment. This will minimize the likelihood of developing a lesion or outbreak.
